TOY DESIGN: PLAY AND THE ACT OF PLAY
(40% INDIVIDUAL)
TASK
- We are required as a designer to design a toy or an object to play based on our own ideas.
- We will be assigned a body part as your main focus in designing the toy.
- The development of the design ideas should be through the 5 thinking process : Empathy, Define, Ideation, Prototype and Presentation.
- You can use manually drawing or digital drawing to extract your 5 thinking process.
- Each of the pages should be in A4 size.
- We are required to use recycle material, daily objects or found objects to create and decorate your toy.

PROCESS
WEEK 9
Empathy
- In this week, I understand the projects briefing.
- I got my assignment from Mr. Azam which is HEAD.
- After the lecture and tutorial class, I got some example and information about what we want to do.
- I'm more clear and I have some ideas on how to start my empathy.
WEEK 10
Define
- In this week, I start to do my define.
- I search and find some recycle materials and found objects that my house have before do my fifth page of empathy which is materials & recourses.
- During the lecture class, Mr. Paul showed us some example from our senior, and I screenshot it so I could get a better inspiration and confidence to do my work into prefect.
WEEK 11
Ideation
- I have some ideas on create a toy in this week.
- I use manually drawing to draw out my idea and scan it into my computer.
- I remember that I used to watch one TV show and one of my ideation is inspired by it.
- I quickly type all of my ideas down into my CCTS FINAL ASM Canva page and done my first version of ideation.
- I sent all of my progress to Mr. Azam
WEEK 12
Prototype Making Process & Testing & Finalize Prototype
- I improved my ideation after got some feedback from Mr.Azam during this week tutorial class.
- I started to create my toy.
- As Mr. Azam mentioned that for my toy, I need to pay more focus on decorate the toy.
- I think about how to make the toy fun and perfect in details.
- I also test the toy after complete created to make sure the toy work.
WEEK 13
Improve & Finalize
- I improve all of my work on very details things after got some feedback from Mr.Azam.
WEEK 14
Shooting & Editing Video & Poster
- I decided to use Jian Ying app to edit my video.
- I done my shooting and editing video.
- During our last tutorial class, I showed my first version video to Mr. Azam and there is a lot of scene need to improve.
- I had improved my video and it is the finalize video.
- I do my poster in portrait.
- During the extra class, I showed my first version poster to my tutor and he suggested me to make the poster in landscape.
- I improved my poster.
FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
In this assignment, I had learnt about thinking and problem solving skills because when creating the toy, I faced a lot of problems such as decorative and prepare the materials resources. Not only that, I also learned how to express and present my ideas to make the toy more fun and attractive. I also learned how to shoot and edit the video to let others more interesting on my toy. Time management is the most important lesson that I learned in this assignment because every final assignments' submission's date is near and I create a toy need to pay more time and effort, so I felt stress because I scared about I can't finish the work on time. But in the end, everything is good and I knew how to schedule a timetable of a day.
